The Finnish National Ballet this season
This season, the Finnish National Ballet will be performing some well-loved classics as well as modern dance works, both from Finland and elsewhere.
The Finnish National Ballet operates in the same premises as the Finnish National Opera. The ballet season lasts from August to June.
The great premiere of the 2006-2007 season is the ballet classic Anna Karenina, choreographed by Alexei Ratmansky. Other high points of the season include visits by star choreographers: in the autumn and spring, there will be new dance works from Jorma Uotinen and Mats Ek, among others. New generation choreographers Saikkonen, Siikala and Tervamäki meet in the Almi Hall.
In addition to these new works, several favourite ballets return to the repertoire in 2006-2007: Swan Lake and The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, and also John Neumeier's ballet The Seagull, based on a play by Chekhov, and Patrice Bart's ballet on the life of the composer Tchaikovsky.
The spring season at the Opera House is something of an exception, as the technology of the main stage will be refurbished in April 2007. From April onward, performances will take place on the smaller stage in the Almi Hall instead, and in other venues in Helsinki.
