Tales from Denmark at Ateneum Art Museum
Ateneum's main exhibition presents Danish art from its Golden Age in the early 19th century up till the turn of the next century.
Ateneum's main exhibition this autumn, on until Jan 27, 2008, is titled Tales from Denmark presenting Danish art from its Golden Age in the early 19th century up till the turn of the next century.
Tales from Denmark shows paintings by the foremost artists of the Golden Age in Denmark, such as C.W. Eckersberg, Christen Købke, Constantin Hansen and P.C. Skovgaard. Included are also works of art from the turn of the 20th century by Vilhelm Hammershøi, and Laurits Andersen Ring. The paintings on display depict landscapes from Italy and Denmark, as well as scenes from everyday life with family and friends.
All in all the exhibition has some 90 works of art. Most of the works in the exhibition are on loan from Statens Museum for Kunst in Copenhagen. There are also paintings from the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm as well as from private collections. The exhibition also celebrates the collection of Danish art from the 19th century donated to Ateneum in 1953 by the Norwegian born ship owner H.B. Tobiesen – an avid collector of art and a great friend of Finland.
