Design products to decorate your home
A home decorator with a sense of style can find a wide range of traditional and trendy objects in the centre of Helsinki.
There is a concentration of stores specialised in design around the Diana park as well as around Esplanadin puisto (Esplanade Park) and on Fredrikinkatu, offering an excellent selection of Finnish design.
Both of the Esplanadi streets showcase well-known brands of traditional Finnish design. On Pohjoisesplanadi you will find Aarikka, specialised in jewellery and home decoration design, and Iittala, engaged in sustainable design of cooking ware and tableware. The stores of these two companies stand almost side by side right next to the Kauppatori market place. The Iittala store also sells Arabia tableware and Hackman cutlery.
On Eteläesplanadi you can continue to get acquainted with the famous names of Finnish design. Finlayson, an established textile manufacturer since the 1800s, and design furniture manufacturer Artek have stores next to Esplanadin puisto.
In the centre of Helsinki there are several Marimekko stores, the well-known producer of textiles and fashion. Two of these are also located on Pohjoisesplanadi. In addition to clothing and fabrics, the stores offer a range of colourful accessories for use all over the house.
More personal shapes of glassware can be found, for instance, in the Nounou Design Showroom (Uudenmaankatu 2). These products are also available in other stores in the centre of Helsinki. For instance, Anu Penttinen’s glass birds are on sale in the Iittala store. You can also have unique glass products made to order.
Artisaani (Unioninkatu 28) is a treasure trove of unique small objects. The range of products includes handmade products from various artists, such as tableware and accessories.
Private Case (Iso Roobertinkatu 12–14), which produces design objects from recycled material, offers an environmentally friendly alternative, including handy containers and boxes made of plastic and recycled cardboard to address the various storage needs at home.
