Qualification through apprenticeship
Apprenticeship training means studying towards a qualification while working and carrying out practical tasks.
The training is based on a temporary employment contract between the employer and employee. Learning on the job is supported by theoretical studies in vocational institutions.
Apprenticeship training provides a route to a vocational upper secondary qualification as well as a further and specialist vocational qualification. The students may also complete a part of a qualification or receive tailored training according to personal needs.
Apprenticeship training is based on a personal study plan, which takes into account the trainee's previous work history and training. Apprenticeship training is also a viable option when an employee requires training because of an extended job description or for those who need to train for a completely new job while working. Entrepreneurs can also participate in apprenticeship training.
Those studying in apprenticeship training are entitled to financial support. The employer receives training reimbursement. The student is paid for the job and receives financial aid for the duration of the theoretical studies. Theoretical courses at a vocational institution are free for the student.
