How to enrol in upper secondary school?
The upper secondary school is intended for students between 15 and 18 years.
The Finnish schools operated by municipalities or the state normally participate in the nationwide joint admission scheme where applications are submitted in February-March. The pupils for upper secondary school education are selected on the basis of the average grades in their comprehensive school leaving certificates. Some schools also have aptitude tests, and language schools often have a language test.
All upper secondary schools are not part of the joint admission scheme; instead, they have their own admission procedures. Further information is available from the schools in question. Normally, the grades awarded from previous studies and aptitude are among the selection criteria, in language schools also linguistic skills.
