Legal aid for students of the University of Helsinki
Like everyone else, students may also come across situations where it would be useful to know what Finnish law has to say.
For students of the University of Helsinki, consulting a lawyer need not cost an arm and a leg: students of the Faculty of Law provide free legal advice to students.
Pykälä, the law student's association, will discuss all legal problems, such as issues related to inheritance or wills, employment or rent contracts, or even student financial aid.
Ville Vienola, Chairman of the Committee for Legal Help, says that students also need advice in matters concerning housing and marital and consumer rights, sometimes even criminal law. Even more unusual subjects are not unheard of.
The Committee for Legal Help assists students by phone, e-mail, letter and by personal appointment. The service is available during term time at the Pykälä office on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5 to 7 pm.
During these hours you are welcome to visit or phone. E-mail you can send anytime. The consultation is free of charge, only actual costs incurred by providing help are invoiced.
