Climate in the metropolitan area
The weather can be anything from -30 degrees Celsius to +30 degrees Celsius.
Weather During the coldest winter months, the temperature can drop to less than -20 degrees Celsius, but with the wind blowing from the sea it can feel twice as cold. In the summer months of July and August, temperatures may reach as high as +30 degrees Celsius. Rainfall is at its highest in the late summer. That is also the time when thunderstorms are most likely to occur. In early autumn, there may be gusts of wind that occasionally develop into gales. The snow cover in the metropolitan area varies. However, on average it remains from December to March. The bright summer season is enjoyed from May to the beginning of September. Air quality There is relatively little heavy industry in the metropolitan area, so the most important factors giving rise to air-quality deterioration are traffic emissions and bothersome street dust in the spring. Atmospheric pressure
The metropolitan area has a typical climate for a coastal city: it is often windy and rain arrives quickly from the sea. However, due to the Gulf Stream, the climate is more temperate than in other areas along the same latitude.
For a big city, the air in the metropolitan area is clean. Its proximity to the sea freshens up the air.
The average atmospheric pressure in Finland is approximately 1,012 hPa. There is seasonal fluctuation in the atmospheric pressure. On average, the atmospheric pressure is at its lowest in January and at its highest in May.
