Mycorrhizal interactions group - MINT

Our research is targeted at understanding interactions in mycorrhizas and mycorrhizospheres. Currently the major research theme is to get basic information of the types and functions of archaeal and bacterial populations associating with different parts of boreal forest tree mycorrhizospheres. Functions of mycorrhizospheres, particularly external mycelium, in nutrient release, uptake and translocation have been long term research goals.

A more applied aspect of the bacterial work in the past has been on the biodegradative activity of both indigenous and inoculated bacteria on oil pollutants. The group is participating in projects studying population ecology of mycorrhizal fungi in boreal forest and nursery ecosystems as well as tropical ecosystems.
