Studies in economics
Economics as a Major Subject
Each year some 60 new students are accepted to study economics as their major subject. In addition, a large number of students select economics as a minor subject. The department also admits a limited number of foreign students. The lectures are given for the most part in Finnish but a few introductory and intermediate courses are also offered in English. The first degrees offered are the Bachelor´s Degree in Social Sciences and the Master´s Degree in Social Sciences. At the postgraduate level there are two degrees; Licentiate´s degree is the lower postgraduate degree and Doctor's Degree in Social Sciences is the final, highest postgraduate degree. The economics programme has two fields of specialization: general and econometrics.

Studies elsewhere
Students of economics may take courses from the other departments or universities as Aalto University School of Economics or Hanken School of Economics. See www-page "Opetus muualla" in Finnish. Before taking any courses, please, consult the administrator of the Disciple of Economics.
Postgraduate Degrees in Economics
The economics department at the University of Helsinki, which offers a programme of postgraduate courses and seminars, has been a forerunner in the development of postgraduate studies in Finland. All of the 11 universities teaching economics currently participate in this programme. About half of the students in this programme come from University of Helsinki. The department has also concentrated on the internationalization of educating research economists. Cooperation between the Nordic countries in the form of arranging special courses and research seminars has begun.
