Unravelling the Economic Innocence of International Law: Credit Rating in International Financial Regulation

Informed by the close relationship between international law and operation of economics, Kangle Zhang expands the scope of critical school’s inquiry into international law to financial regulations. The project is structured to start with a description of the development of the financial system in the 20th century, lined up by the development of the rating agencies and their businesses; then exploring the link between economic theories and the construction of financial system in the 20th century. The thesis uses Althusser’s theory of interpellation, then, to explain the distinctive public and private actors prescribed in regulations on the financial system, and the ideology constituted.
