PhD Anu Kajamaa visited the University of California Berkeley
PhD Anu Kajamaa, a researcher and project manager at the CRADLE,spent the last two months at University of California Berkeley as a visiting researcher. Having made a previous visit to UC Berkeley in 2010, she enjoyed learning from her colleagues.
During the visit, Dr. Kajamaa gave invited speeches at UC Berkeley Graduate School of Education Colloquium and at University Community Links Statewide Conference in March 2012. Kajamaa also visited University of Southern California, USA.

Permission to defend for Jenny Vainio
The Faculty Council has given Jenny Vainio permission to defend her doctoral dissertation, titled 'Hegemony, contradiction and gender in the context of Finnish university physics'.
The supervisor of Jenny's doctoral work is Docent Annalisa Sannino. Jenny's opponent will be Professor Tara Fenwick (University of Stirling, Scotland). The pre-examiners of her thesis were Professor Endla Löhkivi and Professor Susan Meriläinen.

Helsinki Summer School 2012 ‘Activity Theory and
Formative Interventions’ (ATFI) brochure
The course dates are 7 August to 23 August 2012. Please feel free to spread the brochure widely. The course is aimed at giving a rich introduction to activity theory and developmental work research by bringing theory and practice together with the help of case presentations and field visits to organizations in which formative interventions have been carried out. The course will be held in English.

CRADLE gets high marks in evaluation
The international evaluation panels have now completed their evaluation of the research and doctoral training accomplished in 2005-2010 in research groups in the University of Helsinki. CRADLE got a very good result in this evaluation: 23 points of the possible maximum of 25 points.

PhD Marco Antonio Pereira Querol hasdefended his dissertation on the 1st October 2011. Marco has received the grade "examia cum laude approbatur" ( accepted, with extraordinary commendations).
The opponent was Research Director Dr. Marianne Cerf from INRA, France. The Custos was Professor Yrjö Engeström.
