Current Research

Migration, transnational family lives and childhoods

Over the coming year, this Collegium project will consist of three main parts that build on research I have previously done and helps to develop new approaches to research and thinking in the social sciences:

1) the writing of a short, accessible book on a research project that focused on family lives and environment in India and the UK. This was a multimethod study in a programme of work called NOVELLA (Narratives of Varied Everyday Lives and Linked Approaches). It aimed to produce understandings of how families, parents and children, together and separately, think about their environments in the context of climate change;

2) a small-scale research project on masculinities in 11-14 year old boys in contemporary Finland that includes a diverse range of boys and asks what girls think;

3) researching and engaging with new thinking about global migration through talks, publications and a major conference.

In all of these activities I will make links with Finnish researchers and draw on international networks as well as generating further research proposals.
