Kone Foundation Fellows

Since 2004, the Kone Foundation has been funding a visiting scholar programme targeting Baltic, Belorussian, Ukrainian and Russian and scholars. Funding from the Kone Foundation includes a monthly stipend and a small research grant for the Kone Foundation Fellow. The Collegium provides working space and research assistance. We fund approximately 7 scholars every year, for about 4 months each. These scholars represent those fields of study that fall within the Collegium’s areas of interest: humanities, social sciences, theology, law, and behavioral sciences including education.

The Kone Foundation Fellowships are invitational, and the Collegium solicits suggestions for fellowship recipients from not only the faculty of the University of Helsinki, but also other Finnish universities and institutions. The Director of the Collegium makes the decisions on the appointment of Kone Foundation Fellows based on these suggestions. There are no quotas for the diff erent countries or disciplines, but young scholars are favoured.

The fellowship program has resulted in lasting research cooperation and friendships between Kone Foundation Fellows and Finnish researchers. This cooperation has extended far beyond the walls of the Collegium to include departments from the University of Helsinki, other Finnish universities and EU funding programs.
