FAQ - Frequently asked questions

Q: How can I sign in to Helsinki University's Blackboard-system (the opening page is in Finnish)?

A: Unfortunately the opening page is only in Finnish (http://blackboard.helsinki.fi). But here are instructions how to solve this problem:

When you enter the page, you need to choose the "Kirjaudu sisään" button (the lower one). After this you come to a page where there are two boxes. The upper one is for your personal ID and the lower one for your password. If you have no idea what these could be, please contact nina.rapelo(at)helsinki.fi.

After you have written your ID and your password, click the "OK" button. You should come to a page where there are a lot of different boxes - you're now in the Blackboard. If everything is in Finnish, click a link in the upper right hand corner that says "My Settings". From there click "My Tool Options". Scroll down to see "Language". Choose "Englanti (Iso-Britannia)". It means you're now choosing British English.

After you've chosen your preferred language, scroll down and push "Save". Now everything should work in English. To get back to the opening page, click "MyWebCT".

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Q: I cant get in to Blackboard, what should I do?

There are 3 things that there should be either installed or allowed to be able to use Blackboard. 1. You need to have Java Runtime Enviroment 2. You need to allow both pop-ups and Javascript. Without these you won't be able to sign in.
