Student Exchange

University of Helsinki participates in several exchange programs and in that context foreign students can carry out studies at our department. Exchange students are welcome and for more information look under "Teaching in English" and "Visitin researcher info" sections. All applications are handled at the Faculty of Biosciences by our student exchange coordinator.

If you are interested in joining our department temporarily as an exchange student, you should take the following steps:

• Contact the student exchange coordinator of your own university or institution and ask for the procedures at home.
• Go to the University of Helsinki student exchange pages and get the application form. From the same pages you can find more general information.
• Submit the application. The student exchange coordinators will contact you and our Faculty office on the details and whether your visit can be arranged or not.

If you would like to enter one of our degree programmes as a degree student, you have to gain entrance through the general entrance examination. More information on that can be found from the University of Helsinki student admissions pages.

Persons who would like to become graduate-students should also consult the admission pages for details of entry. In addition to gaining the official permit for becoming a graduate-student you must have a study plan and be affiliated into a research group. A general application will not be a successful one. Currently, there are several foreign graduate-students at the department and about 20 % of the new graduate-students came from abroad in 2004.
