Laboratory methods in Molecular Ecology, 523088, 4 ECTS

This course is aimed primarily at students who either plan to start or have recently started their projects in the MES laboratory. It is suitable also for more advanced students less familiar with molecular methods.

The contents of the course will include the theory and practice of basic laboratory methods in molecular ecology. The following topics will be covered: lab safety, DNA and RNA extraction methods, electrophoresis, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), cDNA synthesis, DNA sequencing, microsatellite and SNP genotyping, and Real-Time PCR.
