Welcome
MES is a multi-user laboratory run jointly by the Department of Biological and Environmental Science and the Finnish Museum of Natural History at the University of Helsinki, Finland. It enables the use of molecular genetic markers in many kinds of studies of wild populations such as those undertaken in systematics, biogeography, conservation biology and behavioural ecology. The MES-laboratory is equipped with facilities for various types of molecular biological methods including DNA extraction, PCR, cloning, agarose and starch gel electrophoresis, automated sequencing, microsatellite-genotyping and SNP-genotyping. The lab is constantly developing and new methodologies are introduced on a regular basis in order to maintain standards at a highly competitive level. The laboratory hosts up to 20 research groups and over 70 researchers. Many of the scientists have an international background and the main working languages are English and Finnish. |
