PhD, Docent, Minna Väliranta - PI

I am a palaeoecologist specialised in plant macrofossil analysis. I study both lake sediments and peat and the time span of my research extends to early Weichselian. My research interests are twofold encompassing general palaeobotanical and – climatological aspect, and secondly reconstructions of past changes in wetland environments and related variation in carbon dynamics. During my academic career I have been working in several international projects such as: TUNDRA (funded by EU), ARCTICA (funded by the Academy of Finland), AUTOPEAT (funded by the Academy of Finland) and ACCROTELM (funded by EU). My study sites are situated in the northern part of the European Russia and in Finland. My main projects at the moment are “Past water table fluctuations and related changes in carbon accumulation rates in mires – a quantitative multi proxy-based reconstruction from different climate regimes” and "Biomarkers – a new potential method to study highly humified peat components" which are funded by the Academy of Finland.
