Coming or going, Photo: Anne LiljendahlI have done my Master's degree in Physical geography, defended my Doctoral thesis in hydrobiology and am currently an adjunct professor in palaeoecology. I am mainly using diatoms as tools for environmental reconstructions within a broad range of research interests (see the list of publications). I have been involved in many international and national prjects such as two EC-funded projects (CHILL-10,000 and EDDI); (HOARD), (CLIM-ECO) funded by the Academy of Finland), REBECCA (funded by HERC), "Long term changes in lake ice conditions in northern Finland" (funded by the Kone Foundation), and MESS, founded by the Maj and Tor Nessling Foundation. I have also been one of the leading scientists in the Science Workshop on Past, present and future climate change (funded by the Finnish Cultural Foundation). Currently I am working as a University Researcher at the University of Helsinki, and am responsible for the forensic diatom analysis coordinated by the National Institute of Health and Welfare (THL).
