Financial support for the thesis work can be arranged by applying for personal grants or finding employment in a research group. Also, graduate schools occasionally have an open call to fill salaried PhD student positions. Applicants are selected based on their scientific competence and research plans. The salary is paid by the school, but the position is assigned to one of the member research groups or institutes.
Graduate schools that our students can attend:
- LUOVA - Finnish School in Wildlife Biology, Conservation and Management
- GSBM - Helsinki Graduate School in Biotechnology and Molecular Biology
- FGSN - The Finnish Graduate School of Neuroscience
- VGSB - Viikki Graduate School in Biosciences
- Biological interactions - graduate school
- ComBi - Graduate School in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics and Biometry
- ISB - The National Graduate School in Informational and Structural Biology
- EnSTe - Finnish Graduate School in Environmental Science and Technology
- FGSPB - Finnish Graduate School in Plant Biology (FGSPB)
Graduate schools arrange courses and other teaching. Most of the graduate schools accept “matching funds” students, who have their own outside funding and are allowed access to the courses arranged by the school. Each student in a graduate school must register as PhD student in one of the academic faculties in Finland in order to receive the PhD degree.
