BIOCENTRUM HELSINKI – CONNECTING SCIENTISTS:
UNIVERSITY HELSINKI – AALTO UNIVERSITY NETWORKING EVENT AND GRANTS FOR PI-LEVEL COLLABORATIVE PROJECTS

Biocentrum Helsinki was organizing University Helsinki – Aalto University Networking event, followed by BCH Scientific Meeting on Thursday 16th of October 2014 in Dipoli, Espoo. The purpose of the networking event was to connect PIs of Aalto University and University of Helsinki and to encourage collaboration between the research groups.

After the networking event Biocentrum Helsinki was opened a call for University of Helsinki–Aalto University – PI-level collaborative projects.

Deadline for seed funding applications was Saturday November 15th, 2014.

Instructions for seed funding applications

The application should be submitted jointly by two or more PIs (at least one from each university), and should present a novel, ground-breaking research project carried out in collaboration with University of Helsinki and Aalto University.

The application should include the following items:

- Research plan of maximum 2 pages, including brief budget description
- Brief statement outlining the added value provided by the joint effort and about novelty of collaboration (max. 1 page)
- CVs and lists of selected recent publications of both (all) of the applying researchers (max 3 pages per person)

The level of the seed funding for two year period 2015-2016 is in the magnitude of
~75 000 eur/year. The grant can be used for covering salary (preferentially a post-doc) and research costs. Evaluation of the applications is based on their scientific excellence and added value gained from the collaboration. Novelty of the collaboration is a merit, although proposals based on existing collaborations will also be considered. Each researcher can be involved in one application only.
