Visiting students

The Departments at the Faculty of Behavioural Sciences may also accept international students outside the exchange programmes and bilateral agreements. Visiting students receive credit for all their coursework but are not able to obtain a degree. The visiting student status is normally valid the maximum of two academic years. The minimum length is one full period (7 weeks). The visiting students have the same academic rights and they receive the same student benefits as those who come through an exchange programme. The visiting students receive an official transcript in Finnish, Swedish or English on their coursework . The students have access to computer systems and library services.
Requirements
The Faculty of Behavioural Sciences consideres every application for the visiting student status individually. The applicants must fulfill the following requirements in order to be accepted:
- the applicant has to be enrolled at another university as a Bachelor or Master level degree student while studying at the University of Helsinki
- the study period in Helsinki must bring the student academic benefit
- a statement from the applicant’s home institution confirming the applicant’s study plan and the transfer of credits is required.
- the applicant must show a good level of Finnish, Swedish or English. The required level is B1 in Finnish and Swedish, and B2 in English. If language certificate is needed, any language certificate which can converted into the scale of European Framework of Languages is accepted.
Deadline
The deadlines for applications for the visiting students are the same as for exchange students: May 15 for the autumn semester and the whole academic year and October 15 for the spring semester.
The decision making process takes about one month.
