Username and email address at the University

All postgraduate students in the Faculty of Behavioural Sciences are entitled to apply for a computer username that allows them to use the University’s versatile IT services, including computer laboratories, email and the Alma intranet.
To apply for a user account:
- enrol to the University and register as attending student
- follow the instructions of IT Department
Students who have a computer username also have access to an email account. Email addresses at the University of Helsinki are in the format firstname.lastname@helsinki.fi. The Faculty requests that postgraduate students who have several email addresses use the helsinki.fi address for study-related purposes. You can use any computer with an Internet connection and a web browser to read your email by going to alma.helsinki.fi, logging in and clicking on “My email”.
If you have a problem, please contact the IT support, Helppari, tel. (09) 191 55555.
If you have recently defended your doctoral dissertation at a public examination, you can use the computer username and the related email address that were valid on the day of the public examination for one year afterwards. If you have no valid username, you can apply for a username which will be valid for one year from the date of the public examination. The Faculty allows this in order to support the postdoctoral stage.
See the information for recently graduated postdoctoral researchers.
