Premises, equipment & services

IT facilities are available for students and personnel in the City Centre Campus, Kumpula and Viikki. These include computer laboratories suitable for teaching.

A user account is required in order to be able to use the devices and network services provided by the University. To acquire an account, it is necessary to accept the rules of use.

Today, E-communication has a central role in studying, teaching, research and administration. IT Services offers a functioning email system and tools for online publishing. Web browsers are an essential tool for using network services, and their settings must be up-to-date.

Home directories and printing are important services provided by the PC network and Unix operating environments.

Users’ own computer use is supported by a wireless HUPnet connection in University facilities and at home and outside the University through a secure connection.

Programs are available in centralized hardware architectures for basic word processing, image editing and research. The programs can be installed on a home computer through the Download Centre. University licences guarantee user rights for the most important software products intended for basic use.

The telecommunication network and the connections it provides are a central part of using information technology at the University.

The operating environments offered by the University are Windows- and Novell-based network solutions and the Unix operating system. In addition to Windows, special support is offered to such operating systems as Macintosh OS X and Linux.
