E-mail and news groups

Everyone in the University can use e-mail and have an e-mail address with form firstname.lastname@helsinki.fi .

Mappi e-mail is the main e-mail system in the University. You can use it via Webmail by WWW browsers or suitable e-mail software eg. Mozilla Thunderbikrd, Outlook Express or in Unix Pine.

There are also mailing lists available for groups and organizations. (orderform)

Spam (junk e-mail) is nowardays one the biggest problems of the e-mail. The University have a common junk mail identification system.

News groups

USENET News is a worldwide discussion forum in which the discussion topics are divided between topic-based newsgroups. Some of the newsgroups are local and some global. There are tens of thousands of newsgroups. University of Helsinki news server news.helsinki.fi carries about 400 local groups.
