Guides and Instructions » WWW browsing and publishing » Homepages WWW-updating from Windows NT/2000-Workstation from a Network DriveIt is possible to update the www-pages directly from the www-server. You can map a network drive for the www-files. The mapping is only meant to use inside the Helsinki University. 0. Make sure that the www update key has samba rights. If you don't know what this is about or you know but the www update key doesn't have samba rights then contact webmaster [ät] helsinki.fi. The rights can be checked with command net view \\www.helsinki.fi. In that list is every www update key that has samba rights. 1. samba-updating account has to be activated from the following page https://www.helsinki.fi/perl-bin/sambapasswd. You can use your unix or novell network login name in this but novell network password is more preferable. When you change your password the samba account has to be activated again. 2. The network drive mapping is done by giving following command in command prompt net use w: \\www.helsinki.fi\www-update-key /user:usernamewhere username is the username part of the login name you used in phase 1 and www-update-key is the first 12 letters your www update key. For example webmaster uses login name .vviitanen.it.hy in what the username part is vviitanen. Www update key is s-atk-ohjelmajakelu and the first 12 letters are s-atk-ohjelm. So the command is net use w: \\www.helsinki.fi\s-atk-ohjelm /user:vviitanen. In the place of W one can put any other free disk drive letter. If something didn't go like it should have gone please contact webmaster@helsinki.fi. Some common problemsThe big and the small letters are different thing in www-server. as an example index.htm is different than INDEX.HTM. Problem might also cause that Windows shows INDEX.HTM as Index.htm. WWW-server searches the www-base in the following order index.html index.htm and INDEX.HTM, and if it doesn't find any of those it lists the contents of the directory. It is recommended that Windows is configured to show all files. This can be modified from View/Options View-page in any directory. 02.06.2010 |
