User accounts and passwords
In order to be able to make the most of the services provided by the IT Services, you need to have a user account. There is a user account for you already reserved, but first you must activate it. A new account is applied from your IT contact person. New students get their account automatically and can activate it via internet. Accounts are also alloted for educational purposes, organizations, and groups. For certain administrator systems, separate accounts and access rights are required. User account is only valid for a fixed period at a time. Students must be registered as attending in order to renew their account. Account can be renewed by using university’s online tool. If you no longer study or work at the University of Helsinki, your account will expire automatically and it cannot be renewed. Password is needed when you log in to university’s computers and services. Your password is personal, so take care of it and never tell your password to anyone, not even the personnel of IT Services. Be especially careful with so-called phishing e-mail messages. IT Services never asks your passwords or other personal information via e-mail. Helpdesk will help you if you have problems related to your user account or password. You can contact Helpdesk by visiting user account offices at campuses, or by sending e-mail to helpdesk [ät] helsinki.fi. Note!
