The Aleksanteri Institute - Finnish Centre for Russian and Eastern European Studies

The Aleksanteri Institute is a national centre of research, study and expertise pertaining to Russia and Eastern Europe, particularly in the social sciences and humanities. The institute conducts and co-ordinates internationally renowned research, developes study programmes on various levels and promotes co-operation and interaction between the academic world, public administration, business life and civil society in Finland and abroad.

A growing network

The Aleksanteri Institute was founded in 1996 at the University of Helsinki and has since 2016 belong to the faculty of arts and humanities as an independent institute. It is an international working community of around 50 experts, including both researchers and administrative staff. At at any given moment there are also a handful of visiting scholars working at the institute either via the Aleksanteri Institute Visiting Scholars Programme or separate arrangements.
