Five Central Asia Visiting Fellows in 2014-2015

The Aleksanteri Institute arranged two special calls for Central Asia Fellowships at the Aleksanteri Institute for spring terms 2014 and 2015. In the first call for spring 2014 two scholars were nominated:
Natalie Koch ( Syracuse University, USA): "Synecdoche and the subject: Spectacular power and state-making in Central Asia", and
Slavomir Horák
(Charles University in Prague, the Czech Republic): "Ideology and Regime Building in Turkmenistan. The Writers, Players and Customers"

In the spring 2015 we had a pleasure to host three Central Asia Fellows:
Anceschi Luca (University of Glasgow, UK): “The Geo-Strategic Implications of the TAPI Pipeline Project”
Burkhanov Aziz (Nazarbayev University, Kazakhstan): “Media and Nationalism:  National Identity and Language Discourse in the Media Outlets of Kazakhstan”
Salaev Nodirbek (Tashkent State Law University, Uzbekistan): “Crime prevention: Issues of reforming the penitentiary system of Uzbekistan (based on the experience of prison policy of Finland”

No further special calls for Central Asia Fellowships are planned, but scholars studying Central Asia are welcome to apply in the regular calls of the Institute’s Visiting Fellows Programme.
