Past Aleksanteri Conferences

The deadline for submitting paper, panel, and roundtable proposals was 15 May 2017.

Registration for paper presenters, chairs and discussants
Registration for paper presenters, chairs and discussants is closed (the deadline was 25 August 2017). The fee includes admission to all the scientific events of the Conference, Conference materials, free Wi-Fi, coffee/tea during the breaks listed in the programme, and the admission to the welcome drinks reception on 25 October and the reception hosted by the Finnish Centre of Excellence “Choices of Russian Modernisation” on 26 October.

Registration for accompanying persons and observers
Accompanying persons and observers not presenting a paper are welcome to take part in the Conference. All participants are kindly requested to register for the Conference by filling in the online registration form by 20th October 2017. Registration fee is 25 €, which includes admission to all the scientific events of the conference, conference materials, free Wi-Fi and coffee/tea during the breaks listed in the programme.

Registration fees are exempted from VAT.

Cancellations and refunds

If you need to cancel your participation after you have registered or make any changes, please contact the Conference organisers at fcree-aleksconf@helsinki.fi as soon as possible so that we can introduce changes to the Programme.
Regrettably, we will not be able to offer refunds.

You will receive an automatic email confirming that you have registered successfully.

If you have any technical problems related to the online registration or payment, please contact Conference organisers at fcree-aleksconf@helsinki.fi.

Visa invitation / Certificate of participation
If you need a visa invitation letter or a certificate of your participation to the Conference for grant purposes, please contact Conference organisers at fcree-aleksconf@helsinki.fi after you have registered.

GUIDELINES FOR SESSIONS

Panel sessions will last 90 minutes each:
Panellists: 15 minutes each
Discussant: 10 minutes
Q&A

The chair will introduce the panel and its participants. Each panellist will have a maximum of 15 minutes for their presentations. The discussant will have 10 minutes to give their comments. The papers will be circulated amongst the panel chairs and discussants prior to the conference.

Roundtables will also last 90 minutes. Please be mindful of the time constraints and the fair allocation of time between participants.

CONFERENCE VENUE

The conference venue is the Main Building of the University of Helsinki (address: Fabianinkatu 33). It is located in Helsinki City centre in about one kilometer radius from the hotels we are recommending, from the main railway station, from the main bus terminal and from the harbor.

ACCOMMODATION AND FACTS ABOUT HELSINKI

Accommodation

Participants are requested to make their own arrangements for travel and accommodation and cover the costs related to participation.

The conference organisers have negotiated prices with some hotels near to the conference venue. The prices below apply as long as there is availabity in the hotels. We advice you to make your bookings early in advance.

Hotel Arthur, Vuorikatu 19, offers single rooms at 115 euros/night and double rooms at 135 euros/night. The room rates include accommodation, buffet breakfast and VAT. Please mention the code ‘ALEKSANTERI2017’ when booking. Reservation at these prices should be done by 24 September at the latest.

Hotel Cumulus City Kaisaniemi Helsinki, Kaisaniemenkatu 7, offers single rooms at 128 euros/night and double rooms at 148 euros/night. The room rates include accommodation, buffet breakfast, an access to sauna and VAT. Please contact the hotel by e-mail at my.reservation@restel.fi and mention the code ‘ALEKSANTERI’. Reservation at these prices should be done by 4 October at the latest.

Sokos Hotel Helsinki, Kluuvikatu 8, offers single rooms at 135 euros/night and double rooms at 155 euros/night. The room rates include accommodation, buffet breakfast, an access to sauna and VAT. Please contact the hotel by e-mail at sokos.hotels@sok.fi and mention the code ‘Aleksanteri instituutti’. Reservation at these prices should be done by 9 October at the latest.

Eurohostel, Linnankatu 9, offers hostel-style accommodation situated about 1,5 km distance from the conference venue. Please check the best deal at http://www.eurohostel.eu/ and do your booking online.

University of Helsinki Töölö Towers, Pohjoinen Hesperiankatu 23 A (about 2 km from the conference venue) offers single rooms with breakfast at 93 euros/night or one bedroom apartments for two persons at 136 euros/night. If you plan to stay in Helsinki longer, the price for 4-7 nights is 329 euros (single rooms) and 553 euros (one bedroom apartment for two persons). Reservations can be made by email at unihome@helsinki.fi. Please mention the code ‘ALEKSANTERI’. Reservation at these prices should be done by 29 September at the latest.

Connections from airport to city centre

The airport is situated some 20 km from the city centre. You can reach the city centre from Helsinki-Vantaa airport by bus, train or taxi:
• Finnair City Bus, tickets cost 6,70 euros, bus schedule can be found here.
• Local bus 615 as well as I- and P-trains to the Central Railway Station, tickets cost 5,50 euros. Timetables can be found here. Please note that tickets are not sold in the trains. Thus, you should purchase your ticket from a ticket machine in advance.
• Taxi outside Terminals 1 and 2, the journey costs 40-50 euros and takes 20-30 minutes to the city centre.

You can easily plan your journey by using the Helsinki Journey Planner. Write in the first slot "from" for example 'Airport', in the second slot "to" for example the address of your hotel. Then choose time and date.

Tourism

All basic services, including a pharmacy, are found nearby the conference venue. For leisure there are great opportunities for culture, sightseeing, shopping and sports. Souveniers can be bought from shops located at the Senate Squere or in the Market Square which is located at the city harbor only few hundred meters away from the conference venue.

Helsinki has a wide variety of restaurants that represent both Finnish and international cuisine. Visitors can enjoy anything between laid-back Scandinavian cafés and fine dining restaurants.
