Counternarcotics as a Russian Foreign Policy in Afghanistan

The fall of the Taliban regime and the increase of poppy cultivation in Afghanistan created a new cornerstone of Russia‘s security and foreign policy in Afghanistan and Central Asia. The drug related cooperation in Afghanistan was a priority of Russian foreign policy with the USA and the NATO despite their different approaches to stabilize the security situation in a war torn country. The paper highlights the Russian foreign policy in Afghanistan since 2002 and provokes further discussions about the paradigm change of Russia‘s policy in Afghanistan after the Western sanctions.
