Germany in the Eyes of Modern Russians

Ways of two great powers – Germany and Russia - throughout their history were repeatedly crossed with both positive and negative consequences. The objective of the message – to find approaches to disclosing the general image of Germany that develops in minds of modern Russians. Research techniques – the comparative analysis of scientific publications, reports on the executed sociological interrogations. Films, art and reference books and especially - mass media have Fundamental importance. Personal experience of dialogue of Russians with Germans specifically contributes to the system of shaped opinions on Germany and Germans. Generalized impressions in the form of varied texts on the Internet are found too. But in our opinion, all history of relationships with Germany needs to be divided into two large periods – the period of the World War II and the period of all other history of its existence. These two periods should be considered separately. The Soviet people identified Germans in the first period extremely with a mode of fascists and should give the extremely negative assessments to behaviour of foreigners in a native land, the destruction connected with objective of "the lowest race" and a gain of its territory. Despite of existing memory of this period, it is formally closed.

There is a second period - before and after this war. Beyond all doubt – influence of Germany on a civilization of patriarchal Russia that has been made under Peter's I initiative is huge, as well as empresses Ekaterina The Great, the German by origin. Its contribution to progress of Russia was postponed in memory of Russians. In peace years аttitudes between the countries developed intensively enough. The peace period are mutual projects, investments and business development, commerce, tourism, conferences, festivals and competitions, a science and education system, exhibitions, medical aid. There are many channels of interactions which have positive value to Russians. It finds the reflection in above listed sources of the information, on TV and on the Internet. Positive as a whole Russians assessment of Germans is conclusive, since achievements of Germans – one of the most intellectually developed nations - in many areas of vital functions. Specific Russians assessments of German "greatness" show results of sociological interrogations. As, for example, the interrogation lead in 2009 among Russians by the Levada-center in parallel with similar interrogation of Germans by College of the city of Allensbah on subject matter «Russia in eyes of Germans - Germany in eyes of Russian». There are varied texts on the Internet of type «111 facts about Germany by eyes of the Russian». The similar information is also given in other publications, completely devoted to the given question. To connect and analyse all the pieces of the information on the offered subject matter – is an interesting and promising problem for the population of both countries.
