Rethinking Russian Nationalism since 1990s: Sobornost as an Element of Social Mobilization?

The aim of this paper is to analyze the concept of 'sobornost' (fundamental value of the Russian spiritual culture) as a concept of a national unity. Sobornost tries to design the national 'unity' rather than 'collective and civic nationalism.' Russianness is the commitment to the Russian culture: history, common values and beliefs, language, statehood, uniqueness of the civilization, and the idea of the strong and great Russia. As a result of this, Russian nationalism at least in official version certainly demonstrates openness and inclusiveness. The main research question of the presentation is to answer how and in what ways sobornost find opportunity for its operation in current social situation of Russian society since 1990s.
