Online registration for speakers, chairs and discussants is open until October 6th.

Participants and observers who do not wish to give a paper or organise a panel or a workshop are also welcome to take part in the Conference. There is no registration fee, but please register online by October 15th.

Registration for the receptions is closed.

GUIDELINE FOR SESSIONS AND CONFERENCE VENUEThe working language of the conference is English. Unfortunately no translation can be provided.

There is a PC and a projector in every lecture hall.

Panels sessions will last 90 minutes each:
Panelists: 20 minutes
Discussant: 10 minutes

The chair will introduce the panel and its participants. Each panelist will have the maximum of 20 minutes for their presentations. The discussant will have 10 minutes to give their comments, which can be either direct questions on each of the papers or/and general remarks on the broader themes discussed in the panel. Finally there is time for questions from the audience.

The papers will be circulated amongst panel chairs and discussants prior to the conference.

CONFERENCE VENUEThe Conference will be held at the University of Helsinki Central Campus. The Main Building of the University of Helsinki is located in Helsinki City centre in about one kilometer radius from the hotels we are recommending, from the main railway station, from the main bus terminal and from the harbor.

The venue of the registration/ information desk and keynote sessions is the Main Building of the University of Helsinki (address: Unioninkatu 34/ Fabianinkatu 33 .The building has two sides, the so-called old side by the Senate Square (Unioninkatu 34) and the so-called new side (Fabianinkatu 33). There are auditoria and halls in the Main Building. The auditoria are located in the Unioninkatu side and the halls in the Fabianinkatu side.

A part of the sessions will be held in nearby buildings, in Porthania Building (address: Yliopistonkatu 3) and in Metsätalo Building (address: Unioninkatu 40) from a short walking distance from the University Main Building.

You can reach the city centre from the Helsinki-Vantaa airport by bus 615, 620 or Finnair bus. The airport is situated some 20 km from the City centre. The bus trip costs less than 10 € and the last stop in the Helsinki City centre is at the Main railway station. Taxi from the airport to the centre costs about 50 €.

You can easily plan your trip by using the Helsinki Journey Planner. Write in the first slot "from" for example 'Airport', in the second slot "to" for example the address of your hotel. Then choose time and date.

Participants are requested to make their own arrangements for travel and accommodation and cover the costs related to participation.

Facts about Helsinki


All basic services are found nearby the conference venue including a pharmacy. For leisure there are great opportunities for shopping. Souveniers can be bought from shops located at the Senate Squere or in the Market Square which is located at the city harbor only few hundred meters away from the conference venue.

Helsinki has a wide variety of restaurants that represent both Finnish and international cuisine. Visitors can enjoy anything between laid-back Scandinavian cafés and fine dining restaurants. Near the conference venue are plenty of options. Please see the restaurant guide for further information.


Helsinki´s northern location nearby the sea causes rather windy conditions. We recommend you to take some warm clothes with you. Please see current weather information.
