Guideline for Sessions and Papers

Here is a rough guideline for session timetables. Please note that each panel is entitled to adjust it to their preferences.

There will be panels of two different lengths, 90 min and 120 min sessions, depending on how many speakers there is in one session.

90 minute sessions:
Chair: 5 minutes - introduction of panel and panellists
Panellists: 10-15 minutes
Discussant: 5-10 minutes for comments
Q&A

Roundtables:
Chair: 10 minutes - introduction of panellists and topics, gives questions for panellists
Panellists: 10 minutes - topic chosen in relation to their paper, answering to the questions given by chair
Discussant: 10-15 minutes - summing up the discussion

The chair will introduce the panel and its participants (max 5 minutes). Each panellist will have the maximum of 15 minutes for their presentations. The discussant will have 5-10 minutes to give their comments, which can be either direct questions on each of the papers or/ and general remarks on the broader themes discussed in the panel. Finally there is time for questions from the audience.

There is a PC and a possibility to show Power Points in every lecture hall.

Facts about Finland and Helsinki

Finland is a member of the European Union. The currency of Finland is Euro (€).

The tourist office of Helsinki is situated near to the Aleksanteri Institute and the conference venue at Pohjois-Esplanadi 19. Please see the official tourism website of the City of Helsinki.

To find different places in Helsinki you may consult the map of Helsinki. Just enter the street address and click ´search ´.

To find further information on the University and the City of Helsinki: For general information about the city of Helsinki, have a look at Helsinki on Wikipedia in English или на русском языке (critical readers can compare). You may also wish to consult a historical overview of the University of Helsinki in English and see the website of the University of Helsinki.

Helsinki´s location nearby the sea causes rather windy conditions which makes the capital of Finland colder than other southern cities and towns of Finland. We heartily recommend you to take some warm clothes with you. Please see the current weather information.

Conference Venue

The Conference will be held at the Main Building of the University of Helsinki (address Unioninkatu 34/ Fabianinkatu 33). The Conference Reception will take place at the Helsinki City Hall (address: Pohjoisesplanadi 11-13).

The Main Building of the University of Helsinki is located in Helsinki City centre in one kilometer radius from the hotels we are recommending, from the main railway station, from the main bus terminal and from the harbor.

You can reach the city centre from the Helsinki-Vantaa airport by bus 615. The airport is situated some 20 km from the City centre. The bus trip costs 4,50 € and the last stop in the Helsinki City centre is at the main railway station. Taxi from the airport to the centre costs about 40 €.

You can easily plan your trip by using the Helsinki Journey Planner. Write in the first slot "from" for example 'Airport', in the second slot "to" for example the address of your hotel. Then choose time and date. The journey planner will suggest to you several options and you may even see the map of the proposed route.
