Practical Information

Travelling to and from Helsinki

By plane:

Transportation from Helsinki airport to the city center

The best way to travel from the airport to the city centre is to take the public transport Bus Noumber 615 from the airport's busstation. See the location at the map and the timetable of the bus. One way trip costs 3.60 euros. It takes 35-45 minutes to the city centre.

There is also the more expensive Finnair airport –bus. The cost for the one-way trip is 5.20 euros and it takes approximately 35 minutes to the city. Here the timetable.

The final destination of both buses is the Railway station, not far from the University.

If you arrive at night or you are not interested in communal traffic options, there are normally plenty of taxis available at the airport. It costs approximately 30-35 euros to the city center.

By train:

If you are booking a train ticket from St. Petersburg or Moscow, you can find the timetable here.

Without being too strong local patriots we can honestly confirm that the public transportation system in Helsinki is not bad at all. No matter whether your hotel/hostel is in Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa or even further, there are always good bus, tram or metro connections. You can purchase tickets for trams and metro (for some bus connections as well) by using your mobile phone, see the information

General information, ticket types, routes and timetables, see the site of HKL (Helsinki city transport).
