Non-graduate studies

Application for the right to pursue non-degree studies

Completion of non-degree studies at the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry
The right to pursue non-degree studies may be granted to persons who do not have the right to complete a basic or postgraduate degree at the University of Helsinki. The right to complete these studies may be granted for the purpose of upgrading professional or academic qualifications or of incorporating the studies into a degree from another Finnish university or educational institution. An international applicant who is enrolled and actively studying at a university outside Finland may apply for visiting student status.

Guidelines for non-degree studies
When granting rights to pursue non-degree studies, the Faculty considers the teaching resources of the relevant departments and the applicant’s previous studies and grounds for application. The right to pursue non-degree studies does not provide for the right to complete a degree at the University of Helsinki, nor does it include the rights and benefits of degree students. The right to pursue non-degree studies is limited only to those courses and modules for which the right to pursue studies has been granted.

The right to pursue non-degree studies may be applied for:

  • including these studies into a degree from another Finnish educational institution
  • upgrading a previous academic degree or vocational qualification
  • upgrading professional competence
  • incorporating these studies into studies at the Open University, if they cannot adequately be completed elsewhere
  • on other grounds approved by the Faculty

Fees for non-degree studies
Non-degree studies are subject to a fee which covers teaching arrangements, learning materials and other teaching-related services, but not instruction and examinations. The fees are comparable to those of the Open University of the University of Helsinki. The fees are to be paid before studies begin.

As of 19 th of March 2010, the fees are as follows:

10 euro/credit

(Dean’s Decision No. 67/2010 on fees to be collected from students)

Students will receive an invoice for their courses together with their letter of admission.
