Air passenger transport security in the case of CBRN threat by terrorists
Project Aether lasted for two years in 2009-2011 and it was funded by the European Commission Directorate-General Home Affairs under the Programme for “Prevention of and Fight against Crime”. Project Aether was coordinated by the Aleksanteri Institute.
The objective of the project was to investigate situation awareness and decision making at the European Union level in the case of a complex CBRN (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear) threat-related crisis situation on board an airplane. The project also sought to identify prevention capacity against the use of CBRN material.
Workshop called "What future for the EU in aviation safety?"and project meetings in Stockholm on 16-17 November 2009
The first workshop of the Project Aether took place in Stockholm on 17 November, 2009. The partners presented in the workshop what they have achieved in the project by now. The project steering group meeting and WP meetings were also held in Stockholm on 16 November.
Stakeholder conference on air passenger safety in Hong Kong on 18-20 May 2010
A highly successful conference was held in Hong Kong in May 2010. There were more than 60 participants from five different countries listening to presentations prepared for Project Aether. See more in the "News & Events" section.
Tabletop and live exercises in Helsinki on 11-14 October 2010
The four-day event that had been under preparation ever since the beginning of the project was held in October 2010. More than 80 participants from several countries and organizations came to take part in the information flow and decontamination exercises. More infomation and photos in the "News & Events" section.
Final Conference in Brussels on 9 February 2011
The final conference of the project was held at the European Parliament on 9 February 2011. Nearly 80 participants from the parliament, security-related organizations and media came to listen to the presentations given by project members. Read more in the "News & Events" section.
