The UH Group

Besides the actual university, the University of Helsinki Group includes Helsingin yliopistokiinteistöt Oy and the University of Helsinki Funds. The University Group has a total of about 10,000 employees, and its budget is almost EUR 1 billion.

The Helsingin yliopistokiinteistöt company includes the university properties, previously owned by Senate Properties, in the capital region (excluding Aalto University). The University of Helsinki has an ownership of about 60% in the company. The co-owners include the Finnish Academy of Arts, the Sibelius Academy, the Hanken School of Economics, Theatre Academy Helsinki, and the Finnish state.

The University of Helsinki Funds is an entity managed separately from the university, operating as an institute subject to public law. The mission of the Funds is to support the operations of the university. Oy HaartBio Ab, Helsingin yliopiston kehityspalvelut Oy and Licentia Oy are the University of Helsinki Funds' group companies carrying out business operations. Business operations are also carried out by University Pharmacy and Helsinki University Press, which are not company-form. The University Group also includes many property companies.

The University of Helsinki Funds is involved in many associated companies which originate from university research and which carry out business operations. The Funds also include about 300 donated funds and testament funds which award various grants or provide financing for posts.

The university's group management includes the university Board and the Rector, as well as personnel taking care of group management tasks specified separately. Group management is responsible for steering the University Group and organising Group monitoring.
